Website Design Considerations – jkrglobal.com
Navigation – jkrglobal.com has a very abstract navigation structure. Along the top of the page is a menu listing things about the company itself, whereas if you scroll down the page the audience can see even more information about the products they produce and more about who they are. I feel that this is a good way of using images and typeface mixed together to create an easy way to get round the site. When you first get onto the homepage you have an advertising box with all of jkrglobal’s recent work and projects which automatically gets the audience interested – this also is a good way to ‘scan’ through whom the brand is because you can go from screen to screen looking at the images. I also like how the logo and menu bar always stays at the top of each page so you can go back to the homepage whenever you need to.
Content – What I really like about this website agency is how they have used boxed images to catch the audiences eye for each project, instead of using lots of body copy which could become boring very easily. On the homepage the only content you can see above the fold is the advertising, this gives me inspiration to have a main piece of imagery on my own website that attracts the audience straight away and makes them interested to look further into my designs. I personally feel that the way the content is set out is very effective, and also clear to the audience.
Layout – The part I like most about this agency is how they have laid out their homepage – as you can see once you arrive onto the site the hierarchy hits you with its structure. Everything about the layout is professional and makes the audience interested straight away withits bright pink advertising. To make the advertising stand out more the agency has made the background black to make this the last part of the hierarchy. The websites layout is very important with making an impact because if someone does not find the homepage convincing, its guaranteed that they would not want to explore the site further. For my own website I would take this agencys simplicity effect into account by using bright colours to make content stand out more from darker background colours. Once you click on different subject pages the layout changes completely, the background is always white which gives the exact same impact as the black does to the target audience. Then to look at the content you must scroll down – personally I feel that even though this looks effective, quite a lot of websites use the same idea. As of this i would want my designs to scroll across from left to right – this then makes it more interesting for the audience to look through and I would also use boxes to make each project stand out individually.
Typeface – The typeface that the agency has used is really effective because all the sides are sounded to make the design more modern and also gives off a friendly personality. The headings for each project are titled in bold to make them stand out to the audience so that they know exactly what the project is about. The typeface is consistent throughout the homepage and also for the titles of each subject page, whereas the rest of the body copy is in a plain typeface – probably ariel. This also connects back to the hierarchy as the audience would be attracted to the curvier type that the simplicity of the other.
As a result I really admire this agency website because of how simple yet effective the layout and content works together. This has given me a great deal of inspiration towards my own designs and I feel that I have learnt a great deal about website design from researching this agency and many more to come.
